Woodbury running for open Carson DA seat

Jason Woodbury announced Wednesday that he’s running for the Carson City district attorney seat being vacated by Neil Rombardo.

Woodbury, 41, began his legal career in Carson City in 1998 as law clerk for District Judge Mike Griffin. He was a deputy in the DA’s office from 1999-2003 before entering private practice.

He is a partner in the Kaempfer Crowell law firm, working in civil litigation as well as criminal defense.

“My experience as a prosecutor is important,” he said. “Voters need to know they have a DA with the skill to enforce justice on behalf of the community.

“But that skill must be guided by seasoned judgment — the ability to recognize what justice is in a particular case and the background to calculate the most efficient and effective way to achieve that just result.”

This is Woodbury’s first run for public office, “and no one is going to mistake me for a smooth politician,” he said.

He said he wants to give voters a straightforward look at who he is and what he stands for.

Woodbury graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, and the University of Utah law school. He and his wife, Stacy, live in Carson City and have three children.

Rombardo announced he would not seek a third four-year term.
