This week is the annual celebration of Winterfest at CHS. Students will participate in class activities and competitions much like the ones that take place during Homecoming.
Each day is a dress-up day. There will be an assembly Tuesday for students to celebrate the sports teams, Winterfest candidates will be introduced and silly games will be played between the classes for bragging rights.
There are a variety of activities all week that students can enjoy in Senator Square during lunch, as well as evening events including basketball games Tuesday night against rival Douglas High, Diner Night at Johnny Rockets on Wednesday evening, ice skating and Royal Court candidates announced Thursday, basketball games against Galena with the crowning of the Winterfest king and queen, finishing the week with a Sadie Hawkins Dance in Senator Square on Saturday. More information about these events can be found at carsonhigh.com.
The tradition of royalty court has changed a little for this year’s Winterfest. In years past, only the senior class has been represented with candidates for royalty. This year, the royalty court also will include candidates from grades 9-12. Below is the list of royalty candidates for Winterfest 2014. Congratulations to all of these young ladies and gentlemen.

CHS STUDENT AWARDED TRIP TO CHINA
EF Tours, an educational tour company for students and teachers, has announced its winners of the Global Student Leaders Summit for 2014. Carson High School senior Elizabeth Everest has been chosen as one of the 15 students from the United States who will attend the summit in China.
The summit brings young leaders together from around the world to inspire and prepare them to solve the global challenges of today — and the future. The experience creates a forum in which students can strengthen their skills of creativity, innovation and adaptability.
This year’s 15 scholarship recipients will spend a week exploring China’s ancient wonders, while also learning about the country’s growth and development and how its leaders are supporting this economic change. Students will apply their ideas at a two-day leadership conference in Shanghai, where they will learn about social responsibility in the new global economy. Check out Elizabeth’s winning project idea at facebook.com/eftours/app_561042230621538. Congratulations to Eli! We are so proud of you.

All CHS alumni are invited to come and see the Senators. A variety of raffles will be held that night just for alumni.
Alumni are asked to check in at the alumni table to get their special raffle tickets. Game times are 5:30 p.m. for the girls and 7 p.m. for the boys game.
SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
This week the Senior Spotlight is on Kandis Tuttle. Kandis is enrolled in numerous advanced-placement and honors courses. Despite her challenging course load, she maintains a weighted grade-point average of 4.55.
Kandis has been a member of the National Honor Society and Link Crew for three years. She has also participated in soccer and softball. Softball has been Kandis’ main focus, and she has been a member of the varsity softball team since her sophomore year. She plans on attending University of Oregon and would like to become an elementary school teacher with an emphasis in special education.
Carson High School is proud to spotlight a young lady who contributes so much to our school and community. We wish her great success.
Angila Golik is a government teacher at Carson High School and a member of Senator Pride.
