An additional 8,000 Nevadans have selected health insurance policies through the state’s online insurance market in the past month.
A spokesman for the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange said 20,399 plans had been selected as of Saturday. Of those, 13,159 have actually enrolled by paying for their policies.
The figures are well below the target of 118,000 enrollments by the end of March. That’s the deadline for people to sign up and avoid a tax penalty under the federal health-care-reform law.
