Community Sports: Carson High bowlers off to 3-0 start after win over Sparks

Carson High’s bowling team is off to a 3-0 start after defeating Sparks at the Grand Sierra Resort last week.

Alec Fletcher rolled a 737 series, including a 268, and Jacob Zumbro had a 670 with a high game of 267. Skylar Belcher had a 236 high game and a 658 series.

Other top scores: Dustin Floyd 234-621; Billy Myer 209-614; Conlin Herrick 221-610; Chris Baird 222-606; Matt Liddell 212-583; Garrett Nicholson 233-580, Brett Paulson 209-552 and Tyler Lethcoe 185-512.

Senior golf sign-ups

The Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club is looking for members for the 2014 season.

The season starts on March 12. There are 34 tournament, including nine at other local courses. The cost is $40 to join, which includes NNGA membership. You must be at least 55 to join. For more information, call 885-2100.

Kolb, Perez shine

Brett Kolb, 13, and Gabriel Perez, 17, performed well at the Blizzard Blast Short Course Championship at Carson Aquatic Center recently.

Kolb was high-point winner for his age group. He won the 1,000 free, was second in the 50 free, 500 free and 100 back. He was third in the 200 back, fifth in the 100 free and sixth in the 200 free and 200 IM.

Perez was second high-point winner. He won the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free and 100 fly, and he was second in the 200 and 400 IM plus grabbed a third in the 100 back. He also swam a leg on a winning relay team.

Other top performances:

Eli Everest, 17, won the 500 and 1,000 free, placed second in the 100 free, was third in the 200 free and fourth in the 100 and 200 back; Dagen Kipling, 15, won the 200 breast, placed second in the 200 fly and was third in the 200 back, 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 free; Reece Canfield was second in the 200 fly, third in the 100 fly and 400 IM; AJ Gutierrez was second in the 200 back, third in the 200 and 500 free, and fifth in the 100 back and 400 IM; Tallon Rauch, 16, was second in the 200 back, fourth in the 100 back and fifth in the 50 free and 100 fly; Jay Session, 14, was third in the 200 fly and fifth in the 200 back. Jake Xie, 8, won the 100 back and was fourth in the 100 breast; Kevin Kruitbosch, 13, won the 50 free, was second in the 100 and 1,000 free, and was fourth in the 200 IM, 200 free and 500 free. Ewan Kalley. 7, was second in the 100 back and Nick Melscheimer, 9, was third in the 100 fly.

Silver State spikers fare well

Two Silver State Volleyball Club teams fared well at a recent national qualifying tournament.

The 16 Black squad went 8-0 en route to the championship, beating New Wave Tsunami in the finals (25-17, 16-25, 15-9). The squad knocked off AVE Nationals from Texas in the semis (25-23, 25-11). The team knocked off squads from Southern California (twice), Arizona, Colorado (three times), Texas and Illinois.

Local members of the squad are Emma Sperry and Aubrey Caires (Douglas), Talyn Jackson (Pau Wa Lu), Ashley Rife and Kassidy Lommori (Yerington), and Juliana Anderson and Jaycie Roberts (Carson).

The 18-year-old Black squad went 6-1 to finish second.

The locals lost 25-12, 12-25 and 11-15 in the finals to New Wave Hurricane of Illinois, a team it had beaten earlier in the tournament. Silver State beat the Indy Jrs in the semis, 25-14 and 25-14. Silver State also beat squads from Utah, Colorado, Illinois and Indiana,

Dayton’s Madison Foley is the only local player on the team. The rest of the roster includes players from Truckee, Fernley and Reno.

Line Drive University is now open for the season

Line Drive is located at 2577 Nowlin Road., Minden. Hours of operation are 4-9 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The facility offers baseball and fast-pitch softball batting cages as well as hitting, pitching and fielding practice areas. Slow-pitch softball is also available.

Private instruction is available for hitting, pitching, fielding and throwing, as are season family memberships.

Super Bowl tourney on Saturday

Carson Valley Golf Club is hosting a Super Bowl Saturday Tournament this weekend.

The cost is $35 which includes golf, cart, $10 prize fund and soup at the turn. Teams will be drafted to represent the AFC and NFC which means half the field wins. For more information, call 265-3181.
