Court ruling was about post conception drugs

The AP headline “Court: Religious rights trump birth control” was very misleading. The ruling in Sebelius was limited to abortifacients, i.e., drugs that are used post conception, not contraceptives. No one is denying women access to contraceptives. Even if that were the case, which it is not, with the average cost of a month’s worth of some contraceptives being about $9, it is nigh impossible to imagine that working women could not afford to cover this cost themselves. What a novel thought! Paying for one’s own contraception!

In addition, it is a rather twisted logic that treats pregnancy as a “dis”ease, when in fact it is no such thing. In fact, it is the hormonal pill that increases the chance of genuine disease. Increased probability of cervical and breast cancers, blood clots, high blood pressure, migraines and nausea, and increased yeast infections.

The Court simply acknowledged that individuals business owners, sole proprietors and closely held corporations have a right to offer health insurance that does not violate their religious beliefs, that they have certain rights under RFRA (Religious Freedom Restoration Act, passed by a Democrat congress and signed by Pres. Clinton) and the First Amendment to the Constitution.

If women want to flood their systems with hormonal contraceptives and harm their health they are still quite free to do so.

Symphony, orchestra music was outstanding

As new residents to Carson City, my husband and I wondered if we’d find local places to hear the kind of symphony and orchestral music that we enjoy so much. To our delight, just in the month of June, we have had the pleasure of hearing The Carson City Symphony play at the Governor’s Mansion, Toccata at the Shepherd of the Sierra and the Capital City Band at Western Nevada College — each different and wonderful in their own way.

The people chose their leader

When I first read William Adams’ letter “Give President a Chance to Lead” on June 29, outrage ran in my veins. Later, I began to suspect the letter must be a hoax, a plant, a product of some twisted person on the right who intended the missive as a window into the “irrational” liberal mind-set. In either case, the claims made by the writer beg for a response.

Contrary to Mr. Adams’ assertions, we don’t hold elections to keep the very best at the helm. We hold elections to give the people the right to choose their leaders. And our presidents have not been the “cream of the crop.” Some were. Most weren’t. I freely admit all of them were white (and male), but that’s not proof on its face of racism (or sexism). I’d be willing to bet that Mr. Adams voted for some of those white guys. So, does that mean he, himself, is a racist misogynist?

My biggest beef with Adams’ litany of declarations would be his last, that a cabal of rich white politicians is somehow responsible for the failures of the current administration, and that their sole motivation is the president’s blackness. Really? As if the current administration doesn’t demonstrate its incompetence almost daily. Incompetence, by the way, is colorblind.

Conservative readers (of all races) who got to Adams’ “wish list” toward the end of the letter must have whooped out a “thank you” that those “elite white men” were, according to Adams, keeping those policies out of the president’s reach. And, hey, William Adams, are you implying that a black president couldn’t be savvy enough to outmaneuver those evil whiteys? Maybe a few sips of the “Fox News Kool-Aid” would mitigate the delusional effects of whatever it is Adams (if he’s for real) might have been smoking.

Opinion columnist oblivious to facts

Abbey Johnson should be ashamed for misrepresenting the truth so blatantly! Her commentary on July 2, (Supreme Court opens can of worms with contraception decision) shows that truth is of little concern to her. Facts don’t count with her.

Hobby Lobby has been providing contraceptives to their female employees for years. Out of 20 contraceptives they only objected to four because they are abortifacients, the so-called day after pills. If you are going to make your case, make it based on facts. It’s too bad the newspaper can’t require that of all columnists.

Half truths like, “Social media is abuzz with allegations Hobby Lobby pays for Viagra and vasectomies” without pointing out they also pay for many female contraceptives is close to lying and shows you can’t get your information from social media. Shame! Shame! Shame!

Beware of corruption of the truth

Warning, false doctrines, Frank Schaeffer, Roma Downey, Colton Burpo, all are false teachers. I am not judging their thoughts and intentions, just their false teachings and that according to scripture, 2 Corinthians 11:13-14, “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel! For Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”

The above named are preaching and teaching another Jesus and gospel.

2 Corinthians 11:4 — “For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.”

God’s warning to all those who add to or take away from his words is this.

Revelations 22:18-19 — “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, if any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book, and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life and out of the holy city and from the things which are written in this book.”

Ignorance is no excuse for anyone who does that. I include Rick Warren, Beth Moore, Mark Batterson, Eugen H. Peterson, the TBN gang, with the exception of Ray Comfort — he’s okay! But remember, he too is a man and not to be followed without Biblical proof text, only follow the word, the King James 16:11, forsaking all others; it has its own build-in commentary and dictionary. You do not need to use man’s. God thought of everything!
