The Carson Junior All-Star team used a six run fifth inning to advance to the semifinals of the District 1 Little League tournament at Governors Field on Tuesday.

Carson had three hits and took advantage of four walks by Reno National pitchers to win 10-5.

With one out, Colby Zemp walked to start the rally. Josh Buchan singled and Wyatt Rooker reached on an error that scored Zemp. Chris Cunningham walked to load the bases and Terin Keller walked to score Buchanan making it 6-3 Carson. Bryson Keller walked as Cunningham scored to make it 7-3. Terin Keller scored on Derek Schafer’s single to make it 8-3. Carson would add its final runs on Daniel Morrison’s two RBI double.

Morrison, who relieved Schafer on the mound in the fourth inning for Carson, would give up two runs in the fifth inning, but limited the damage thanks to some solid defense by his teammates.

Carson took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after a single and two stolen bases from Ethan Good. Good would score on Schafer’s RBI single. Good would add Carson’s second run in the third inning. He led off with a double and scored on Morrison’s RBI single.

Carson stretched the lead to 4-1 when Rooker, who singled, scored on Terin Keller’s ground out. Cunningham, who was hit by a pitch, would then score on an error on a dropped pop fly.

On the mound, Schafer allowed only one run through three innings. He gave up two singles and two walks in the fourth before being removed after throwing 50 pitches.

Morrison came on and gave up a single that plated two runs then induced a ground ball which allowed him to throw home to Rooker for the force before Rooker turned a double play to first to limit the damage.

Shafer went 3 1/3 innings giving up three runs on three hits and three walks. Morrison went 3 2/3 innings of relief giving up two runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out one.

Carson plays at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
