One of the summer’s biggest events in Carson City commences today when the annual Silver Dollar Car Classic is again held. The event, which has become a precursor to Hot August Nights, will be held through Sunday.
The Plaza Hotel and Conference Center will be the host for the event from 6 to 9 p.m. today. The event moves to the Carson Nugget on Friday, with a welcome reception and registration for participants to be held from 4 to 7 p.m. The public is then welcome to the Carson Nugget Street Dance and Show ‘n Shine with Route 66 from 6 to 10 p.m. in the west parking lot.
The main part of the classic will happen on Saturday and Sunday at Mills Park. On Saturday, the classic will run from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Mills Park and the Carson Nugget. Registration will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. and a Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast will be held from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at Mills Park.
The Show ‘n Shine, music, food and vendors will be featured from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and judging will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A sock hop will follow at the Carson Nugget Ballroom from 6 to 10 p.m.
The classic concludes on Sunday and will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mills Park. A Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast will be held from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and the Poker Run will be held from 8 a.m. to noon. The Show ‘n Shine, music, food and vendors will be featured from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a barbecue will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The awards ceremony will be held at 1 p.m.
