The Salvation Army of Carson City is collecting back packs and school supplies for underprivileged children through Aug. 13. The Salvation Army has been receiving calls from families in need for several weeks asking for help. Children from Carson City School District, Silver State Charter School, and Douglas County School District will receive back packs and school supplies that are collected.
Similar to The Salvation Army’s Christmas Angel Tree program the Army has started an Apple Tree program with “Apples” that have a child’s wishes on it to help donors shop. These Apple Trees can be found at any of the local businesses listed below.
School supplies being collected include: Book bag or back pack; pencil bag or box; washable white glue, 8 oz bottle; glue sticks; crayons, 24 count; colored pencils, 24 count; No. 2 pencils; large rectangular eraser, pink; spiral notebooks, 70 pages; packet folders; notebook paper; 12-inch ruler; protractor; blue, black and red ink pens; highlighters, different colors; washable markers, 8 count; low odor dry erase markers; flash drive/memory stick; graph paper; and calculators.
Back packs and supplies can be dropped off at The Salvation Army, 661 Colorado St. Carson City 89701 before Aug. 13.

The Carson City Library has a collection barrel and Apple Tree Poster located at the library’s main Help Desk. Patrons may take an apple from the tree, purchase the items requested on the apple and return the items along with the apple to the library to be placed in the barrel.

NEVADA JUSTICE BACKPACK DRIVE
NJA Cares, the community outreach and charitable arm of The Nevada Justice Association, a statewide non-profit organization of
independent lawyers, has teamed up with Assemblyman David Bobzien to collect backpacks and other school supplies for donation to students at Mt. Rose Elementary. Supplies are being collected through Monday, Aug. 18.
Items needed include: New backpacks, spiral notebooks, loose leaf paper, composition notebooks, binders, pocket folders, scissors, rulers, drafting compasses, protractors, dividers, mechanical No. 2 pencils, pencils, highlighters, dry erase markers, crayons, 3x5 index cards, Post-It notes, book covers, dictionaries, and large boxes of Kleenex.
Supplies may be dropped off at the Northern NJA Office, 406 N. Nevada St., Carson City.

STAPLES HELPS TEACHERS
Staples will help teachers with a Teacher Appreciation event all weekend from Aug. 1 through 3 at its store locations.
Teachers enrolled in the Staples Teacher Rewards program will receive a coupon for 25 percent off any purchase of $10 or more that can be redeemed this weekend. During this weekend, teachers will also receive a free academic “Calendar of Savings” with teacher specific offers each month so they can save all year long. Educators can sign up for the program at any Staples store this weekend.
