Charles Leonard Barrett

Charles (Chuck) Barrett was born in Reno, Nevada on October 9, 1928, to Mary Lyons Barrett and Clifford Barrett, and died on May 26, 2014. He was raised in Markleeville, CA. Chuck attended school in Gardnerville, and graduated from Douglas High School in 1948, where he was Class President and a 4-year letterman on the Douglas Tiger football team, where he earned honors as an All Conference team outstanding player. Chuck met his wife, Marian, in high school and they married on July 10, 1949. They spent 64 loving years together, raising a family, travelling, camping, fishing, and they especially loved time with their family. For the past ten years, he enjoyed his daily early-morning trips to the Swim Center for exercise and social time with friends. Chuck was a veteran of the United States Marines and spent time in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Chuck worked for the State of Nevada Department of Transportation for 30 years. After his retirement, he spent 10 years as a substitute bus driver for the Douglas County School District. Chuck spent many years volunteering his time to the local community. He was the Assistant Fire Chief for the Gardnerville Fire Department for 25 years. He also served many years as a member of the Gardnerville Town Board, Gardnerville Town Water Board and the Douglas County Recreation Board. As a member of the Recreation Board, Chuck was instrumental in the purchase and development of the land for Lampe Park, and the building of the first Douglas County Swimming Pool in Gardnerville. He was a member of the Gardnerville Masonic Lodge 33. Preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Jim Callahan. Chuck is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marian, and his three children, Paul (Vicki) Barrett, Cathy (Gerry) Colquhoun, and Bob (Jolly) Barrett; four granddaughters, Angie D’Antoni, Nicole Price, Dr. Heather Barrett and Jennifer Krupp; and five great grandsons, Nico, Luca and Joey D’Antoni, Brady Price, and Oliver Krupp, and sister Patty Gregg. The service will be held on Monday, June 2, at 10:30 am at St. Gall Catholic Church, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville, Nevada. Chuck, our Papa, will be greatly missed by family and friends.
