A gentleman granger from the rural shades of Walker River arrived here last night. He awoke at the peep of day and had business with the chief magistrate of our state. He wandered aimlessly until 9 a.m., when he was informed he may have to wait another hour for the ponderous door of His Excellency’s office would be swung back for his admission. Imagine his disgust! He removed his hat revealing an unkempt growth of hair in which a few kernels of oat seed and corn were nestling. He swore he couldn’t see the beauty of city life, of making night time out of day time.

The advance guard of the Holiness Band, comprised of two women and three men, arrived in Reno Thursday and gave a street concert to a large and cosmopolitan audience in the evening. Both an emigrant train and a returning Boston excursion train were sidetracked there and listened to the performance consisting of psalm singing, prayers and exhortations. — The Salvation Army.

Forest supervisor W.J. Rushing reported today that the disturbance at Mount Lassen, thought to be an eruption, was no more than geyser action caused by the rapid melting of the snow into fissures of the crater causing an immense amount of steam.

Admission Day celebration in Carson City, which lapsed at the beginning of the war, will be revived this year. Under tentative plans, the celebration will not only be for Nevadans, but for members of the Armed Forces stationed in Fallon, Hawthorne, Tonopah and Reno.
