The 2014 Legends of the West Bike & Car Fest, held June 13 and 14, was a great success. It was bigger and better than ever before. There are so many to thank for making it grow and glow:
CCSO Motor Unit, Sgt. Scott McDaniel and his unit and all the Motor Officers who travelled here from near and far to compete for glory; Sheriff Kenny Furlong and Undersheriff Steve Albertsen; Elks Lodge 2177, especially AJ Matule, Carol Park, Marilyn Baxter, Chuck Matule, Skip Reed, Kent Mayer and Mary Wilde for their breakfast, volunteering and providing the lodge for our bag stuffing party; Freaks of Nature Car Club, president “Sandy” Sanders, registrar Yvette Lopez, and Brunch Dizzle and the entire club; Carson Victory Rollers roller derby team who sold the heck out of those raffle tickets and entertained the entire crowd; City of Carson City, Public Works Curtis Horton, Justin Tierney, John Platt and all the crew that managed the street closure; Permit Center Lena Reseck; Parks & Recreation Roger Moellendorf , Scott Fahrenbruch , and April Livesay and their crew, and Ron for the electrical hookups; State Buildings & Grounds, Marty Phillips and his crew for power at the Capitol; Carson City Area Chamber of Commerce for helping notify businesses about the street closure; Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar for providing its patio for our awards ceremony.
Our generous sponsors: Downtown Business Association, Cactus Jack’s Casino, Carson Jewelry & Loan, American Family Insurance (Kadee Mason Agency), Carson Dodge Chrysler, Nevada Vapor Supply, Sassafras Restaurant, and Remedy’s Bar.
Special thanks to three key people who made it all possible: AJ Matule (East to West Embroidery, Elks and DBA) who did our dash plaques, recruited volunteers and raffle prizes, and who provided invaluable advice; Brunch Dizzle (Brunch Graphics and Freaks of Nature) who did all our graphics, our T-shirts, and even DJ’d our street dance; and of course my husband Fred Nietz who is my partner in all things.
Thanks to our charities, FISH and Disabled American Vets of Carson City and Reno, for your support and for all the things you do in our community to make it better.
Congratulations to all the winners. Thanks to all the entrants, volunteers, judges and vendors who made the event a great success and created a good time for the entire downtown.
If I missed anyone, thanks for your participation and assistance in making the 2014 Legends of the West Bike & Car Fest the best ever!
