Intermediates win title District crown

Carson City’s Intermediate all-star squad has advanced to the state tournament with an easy 22-8 win over Centennial Saturday night at Governors Field.

Carson swept the best-of-three series, and now will play District 4 from Las Vegas when the state tourney begins next month.

Jared Barnard led Carson with four hits, while Ben Nelson added three. Joe Tonino, Matt Gunkel, Kahle Good and Landon Truesdale all added two hits for Carson City’s offense, which produced 19 hits.

The game got off to a wild start, as each team scored five times in the first. Nelson had a key two-run single for Carson City, while Jack Swain’s triple was the big blow for Centennial.

Carson City sent 12 batters to the plate in the second, scoring seven runs en route to a 12-5 lead.

Gunkel singled as did Good. A wild pitch moved both runners up a base, and Garrett Damico walked to load the bases. Barnard followed with a triple and he ended up scoring when the relay throw was errant. Two walks and a hit batsman loaded the bases for Nelson, who delivered a two-run single. Gunkel delivered his second hit of the inning, a run-scoring single.

Both teams scored in the third, and Carson City added single runs in the fourth and fifth to make it 15-6 after five.

In the top of the sixth, Carson City exploded for its second seven-run inning of the contest.

Good delivered a two-run double, Barnard added a run-scoring hit, an error scored a run and Truesdale drove in two more with a triple.

Centennial scored twice in the bottom of the inning.

Carson 9-10s win again

Carson snapped a 3-all tie with two in the second and seven more in the third to grab a 13-3 run-rule win over Sparks National in a loser’s bracket game on Saturday.

The locals continue play tonight at 7:30 p.m., needing another win to stay alive in the bracket.

After Sparks National took a 3-0 lead, Carson bounced back with three of its own thanks to run-scoring hits by Justin Nussbaumer and Eddie Tierney. An error helped account for the third run.

In the second, Carson parlayed two hit batsman, a walk and single by Cam Boeckman into two runs and a 5-3 lead.

In the third, Carson scored seven runs, as Ashton Davenport, Tierney and Luke Pedersen delivered run-scoring singles, while Boeckman hit a triple.

Boeckman led the offense with three hits, while Davenport and Tierney added two each.

10-11s lose 8-5

Carson jumped to a 2-0 first-inning lead, but was unable to hold on en route to an 8-5 loss to Reno Contnental in a winner’s bracket game on Saturday night.

Carson plays again tonight at 7:30.

Tyler Gurrieri, Kobe Morgan and Tyler Stagliano singled in the first. Stagliano’s hit drove in a run.

Reno Continental scored three in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth for a 7-2 lead before Carson struck for three runs, two coming on a homer by Stagliano.

Reno added one in the top of the sixth to close out the scoring.
