This week is proficiency testing at CHS. All students taking proficiency exams will report to school at the regular bell time of 7:45 a.m., but students not taking exams will start school at 10:30 a.m.
MR. CARSON HIGH
Mr. Carson High is a fundraiser for the cheerleaders and has become a tradition. It will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Carson City Community Center. There are 27 contestants competing.
The gentlemen will be judged on their superhero costume, personal introduction, talent, on-stage question and overall stage presence.
There also will be a performance from the junior cheerleaders. Tickets are $10 for general admission, with doors opening at 6:10 p.m. VIP tickets are $20, which include dinner at 5 p.m. and preferred seating. All proceeds go toward paying for cheer summer camp, cheer equipment and cheer uniforms.
PROM GIVEAWAY
Greater Nevada Credit Union is holding a prom giveaway for all CHS seniors. The prize package includes a $200 Dillard’s gift card for prom dress and shoes, a $100 Men’s Wearhouse gift card for a tuxedo, a Prom Floral Package courtesy of Carson City Florist (corsage, boutonniere and stem rose for Mom, a $50 value), a hair up-do and make-up from Bella Salon and Spa in Carson City ($50 value), a $100 Adele’s Restaurant and Lounge gift card for dinner, and two tickets to prom, courtesy of CHS.
It’s also offering a bonus prize of a $200 Visa gift card if the winner is a GNCU member. Seniors can visit the GNCU educational branch inside the high school to enter to win. Entries must be turned in by 1 p.m. Friday.

CHS BAND HONORED
Congratulations to the orchestra, wind ensemble and concert band from CHS for receiving superior ratings at the Zone Band Festival. The orchestra was the highest-scoring group, with the wind ensemble second and the concert band fourth out of 13 bands and orchestras! Way to go, Senators.
SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
The Senior Spotlight this week is Savannah Law. Savannah has both advanced-placement and honors courses. Despite her challenging course load, she still is able to maintain a 4.2 weighted grade-point average.
Savannah will attend the University of Nevada, Reno. She plans on majoring in biology, and her goal is to become a cardiologist. Savannah has been a member of the student council for four years. She is involved with Health Occupation Student Association and CHS National Honor Society. Carson High School is proud to spotlight such a bright and promising individual.
We wish Savannah the best in her future endeavors.
