Ken was born Kenneth Wayne Bittinger on March 21, 1947 in Santa Ana, CA and passed away peacefully on March 18, 2014 in Carson City NV at the age of 66. After graduating High School in Accident MD, he pursued his degree in Religion. After college he began traveling the country in his motor home learning many things along the way. His ventures included working at a brick company, working as a farm boy and then spreading his wings and going to Hawaii to open a gift shop called “Sea Breeze.” 15 years later he moved to Montana where he opened a flower shop. He also was a bartender in Denver, CO where he met his significant other and life partner William Thomas. Ken and William became co managers of an apartment complex together and after a year they moved to Nebraska where he used his talents for the local news paper. He developed a very successful route with 1800 customers where he was known as “Flash.” 7 years later their travels took them to Arizona where Ken worked as an insurance agent for a rental car company. As well, he worked as a chief cook for British Airlines. Finally he found his final career as a motor
vehicle officer for Arizona State and retired in 1999. After retirement Ken and William moved to Carson City, NV. Throughout his life, Ken had many other interests as well. He and William raised Doberman Pinchers, he enjoyed water skiing, traveling (especially his Pismo Beach trips twice a year for his and William’s birthdays), collecting shot glasses, wine tasting and seafood. Ken loved the Ocean, cooking and gardening as well. He is survived by his loving significant other and life partner William Thomas, his mother; Ruby Bittinger of Accident, MD, his children: Scott Bittinger (Teresa) of WV, Kimberly Anderson (Bryan) of WV, Krystal Bittinger Haywood (Nilsson) of Maui, HI, sister; Dorothy, step sister Helen, 4 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Roy Bittinger and his infant son; Steven. A viewing will be on Mon. Mar. 24th from 4-8pm at Walton’s Chapel of the Valley. A funeral service will be held at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Carson City at 11am on Tues Mar 25th and a graveside service will follow at Walton’s Carson Gardens Cemetery. The family requests that any donations be brought to the service or mailed to P.O. Box 938 Carson City, NV89702 and the family will donate it to a non profit organization close to Ken’s heart.
