Reno: The spirit of improvement seems to be in the ascendant in Reno; new buildings are springing up in every direction. Should the stringency of the money market let us as spring opens, there will be such an improvement in Reno as will forever place us in the lead of all towns in this state outside of Storey County.

Dried lizards: The Secretary of the Treasury has decided that dried lizards imported into San Francisco for medicine by the Chinese must be classified under the tariff law as medical preparation ... and pay a duty of 40 percent ad valorem.

All sorts: Jimmy Callahan, the Washoe tenor, was in town. The churches are all preparing special music for Easter Sunday. Keep in mind the Paper Tea at Mrs. M. A. Murphy’s. The young men who are starting a hunting and fishing club held a meeting at the Armory Hall.

Rovanna Froelich became Miss Carson City over a field of five other contestants. She was sponsored by Cee Cee’s Bridal and Formal. Britt performed a tap dance in competition. She plans to attend the University of Nevada-Reno and study medicine.

Sue Ballew is the daughter of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
