Anna Mae Smith was born in
Chicago, Illinois, where she spent the early part of her life. There she graduated from South Shore High School and briefly worked as a legal secretary. In 1946, she met John Smith, a “handsome cowboy,” on a blind date arranged by her best friend. They were married in 1947 and were together for 66 years until John passed away last October. In 1955, Anna Mae moved with her family from Chicago to Southern California and then to Carson City in 1999, where she lived happily for the last 15 years. Anna Mae had a singular and focused devotion to caring for her family, and this devotion molded her entire being. She never put herself first for any reason. She is survived by twin daughters, Peggy Pollyea and Tricia Schodowski; grandchildren, Reed Cozens (Barb), Ryan Pollyea (Dena Neese), and Renee Croteau (Aaron); and five great grandchildren, Jackson and Wyatt Pollyea, Gabriel and Vivian Cozens, and Allison Croteau.A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Gall Catholic Church, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.
