Carson High’s JV boys and girls track squads won in the Great Sierra JV Championship Invite on Tuesday afternoon at the Jim Frank Track & Field Complex.
The boys outlasted Douglas 72.5-54.16, while the girls edged Damonte Ranch 77.5-54.
Corey Jasper won the shot put (42-8) and the discus (109-1), while Jesus Rodriguez won the 400 (55.58) and was third in the 100 (12.08). Greg Wallace won the high jump with a leap of 5-10 and Tony Xie took first in the 800 at 2:19.56. Michael Leiken was second in the 800 at 2:20.31 and third in the 1600 at 5:13.40. Adam Maw was second in the triple jump at 37-2 1/2, fourth in the long jump (16-7 1/2) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (47.79).
Hailey Palotas won the long jump (16-6 1/2) and the 100 (13.17), and Caroline Gabica won the high jump (4-10) and triple jump (32-11 1/4). Gabica was second in the long jump at 14-11 1/4. Jiavanna Wong-Fortunato won the 3200 in 13:55.12 and took second in the 1600 with a time of 6:32.77. Lydia Cohen was third in the 200 (30.09) and fourth in the 400 (1:11.24). Katie Matuska was second in the 300 hurdles in 55.44.
Family golf clinic
set for Eagle Valley
The 22nd annual Fred Alexander Memorial Family Golf Clinic is set for May 18 starting at 10:30 a.m. for registration.
Registration runs until 11:45, and the clinic runs from 11:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. The clinic is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 17. More than 40 Sierra Nevada Chapter golf professionals will run the clinic. All participants will receive lunch, a T-shirt, a backpack and a golf club while quantities last. Equipment will be provided if attendees don’t have their own.
Craig Hocknull, a trick-shot artist, will give a demonstration.

Bittman, Gussow win
at Thunder Canyon
Bob Bittman and Jeff Gussow carded a 100 to win the Thunder Canyon Cha-Cha tourney May 2. John Anderson and Tony Bellucci and Charles Kilpatrick and Dan Culbert tied for second at 106.
On the women’s side, Theresa Beggs and Pam Lippold carded a 61 to win the better ball event. Leanne Crowell and Betty McGee, and Susan Hood and Karon Sullivan tied for second at 64.
Menezes wins top flight
at Carson Valley
Marc Menezes shot a 66 to win Flight A at the recent Carson Valley Men’s Club event. Marc Prause and Jeff Schreiber were next with 69s.
Dennis Patterson won Flight B with a 66, two shots better than Augie Martinez. Brent Holderman shot 66 to win Flight C and Gary Schreiber was second at 67. Neil Bain took Flight D with a 60, eight shots better than Paul Finan.
