Letter writer was right on the nose

Regarding CJ Ojanpera’s letter to the editor on Sunday, May 11, just want to say my sentiments exactly! I too have wrinkles and gray hair, but as they used to say in the old days, I still have my faculties!

I can work a computer and a smartphone and even send and receive text messages, and I don’t need any help to do so. As far as pandering to the elderly is concerned, my personal favorite was when my husband and I visited one of the better known franchise restaurants in town and the server rushed over and gushed, “Oh, and how are you two kids today?”

Kids? Really? Was I coloring the place mat or having a tantrum? I don’t think so. Well, maybe after she said that. I even know that “server” is the correct term to use when referring to the folks who bring us our food, and I don’t call a flight attendant a stewardess, either.

So, thanks for talking normally to me. I truly will ask for help if I need it. And thanks again, CJ Ojanpera, you old sweetie you! Oops!

Designate a drive this holiday weekend

Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, and this much-anticipated holiday is right around the corner. It’s a fun time when families and friends gather to celebrate with backyard barbecues, boat excursion and other outdoor activities. It’s also an opportunity for all of us to help keep our community safe.

As fellow citizens, Capital Beverages and our employees are renewing our pledge to be or use a designated driver over Memorial Day weekend and any time alcohol is part of our plans. These are our roads and we have a shared responsibility to keep them safe. However you get home this Memorial Day weekend, please designate a driver.
