Worship service planned for all faiths

Although different religions each have their own set of doctrines, they have a common goal and common set of values, said Christy Telling, of Capital Christian Center.

“There are many things that divide churches,” she said. “But we are one body in Jesus Christ. We know that the unity in the body of Christ brings blessings and annointings. We all need each other.”

She is among volunteers from local Christian churches who are organizing an all-faiths worship service, Engage, at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Carson City Community Center.

“We are inviting the general public to attend this time of praise, worship and fellowship,” she said. “It is an opportunity to bring family and friends to an evening where you can worship our Lord Jesus Christ and meet with other members of the body.”

Pastor James Parker of Freedom Church came up with the idea and hosted the first one in February.

“It was on my heart to worship with other congregations,” Parker said. “Jesus said when we worship in unity, the world knows God loves us. We all know one another, and we all serve the same Jesus.”

The service is free and open to the public. It will feature three speakers, along with three worship bands. Several churches will also have informational booths set up.

“It’s a way for people to find a church that they’ll fit into,” Parker said. “It’s a way for anyone looking for a church or even looking for a relationship with God to come worship with other believers. It’s also a great way for us to get together and just bring glory to God in that kind of venue.”
