Nebraskans Jeff Searcy and Roger Ludemann were all eyes and ears this weekend as they visited Las Vegas and Carson City to take in Nevada Sesquicentennial events.
Searcy and Ludemann were visiting to learn how the Silver State is celebrating 150 years of statehood, which the Cornhusker state will be doing in 2017. They represent the Nebraska 150 Committee, which is headed by Searcy as chairman.
“As Nebraska approaches its Sesquicentennial in 2017,” said Searcy, “we’re learning from people in the great state of Nevada.” He said the trip to Friday’s Las Vegas Nevada Day Parade and the Saturday parade down Carson Street, along with exposure to Silver State leaders who put this state’s 2014 events together, will help prepare for “the greatest celebration and commemoration anyone’s ever seen for the Nebraska Sesquicentennial.”
Not unlike Nevada, he said, the committee he chairs will be helping Nebraskans celebrate in 2017 the entire year. He and Ludemann said it will prove an economic engine, a historic opportunity and a chance to laud the environment and enhance educational matters there.
Both men are from Lincoln, Nebraska’s capital, and praised those hosting them during their visit. Searcy particularly mentioned Gov. Brian Sandoval, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, Peter Barton of the Nevada State Museum, along with Kara Kelley and Neena Laxalt of the Nevada 150 Commission. Kelley is the executive director and Laxalt the vice chairperson. Krolicki served as commission chairman.
