Lake Tahoe Brewery coming to Carson City

Lake Tahoe Brewing Co. intends to open for business early next year in a refurbished building that formerly housed High Sierra Brewing Co. in downtown Carson City.

So said Mike Candelario, who is involved with others in the firm that is opening craft brewery locations both in Carson City and Truckee, Calif., during the coming winter. Candelario was in Carson City Monday watching as workmen dealt with the brewing building’s interior revitalization. He said he and his spouse are among those who have and will operate the two breweries.

The firm’s website at laketahoebeer.com referred to the company as LTBC and said:

“LTBC is the latest project of award winning craft brewers hell bent on brewing the most demanding and unique styles in the market with a focus on barrel-aged varieties.”

Candelario, 32, said he originally came from the east coast but has lived in Wisconsin, Texas and Europe. He said he learned much about brewing in Europe and in this country’s Midwest, mentioning time in beer-oriented Germany and Wisconsin. The brewer said he moved to this area last summer.

The firm’s website includes menu and beer choices with an emphasis on Italian fare and the like, with four pizzas, as well as 14 craft brews ranging from European to American and Mexican styles.

The structure now undergoing work at 302 N. Carson St. formerly housed the High Sierra Brewery, which still was the name on one sign facing on the Proctor Street side. The sign on North Carson Street, however, had been changed to reflect the new ownership. The building is just north across Proctor Street from the Adams Hub business innovation center and kitty-corner from City Hall.

The Adams Hub, as well as the brewing company building and the former Citibank to the west running north along Curry Street, are owned by the property holding firm of the Hop and Mae Adams Foundation. Miya MacKenzie of MacWest Marketing, spokesperson for the foundation’s Steve Neighbors, had said earlier the hope was that after renovation the building north of the Adams Hub would attract another brewer, which now is the case.

High Sierra earlier this year parted company with Neighbors, a change Jim Phalan of that former Carson City brewing firm termed amicable, and relocated to Sparks. It moved to Baldini’s Sports Casino in the Reno-Sparks metro area.
