Three plays and 52 seconds into the game the Reed football team had a 7-0 lead over Douglas. The night didn’t get much better for the Tigers.

Reed, the No.1 seed in the High Desert League, rolled to a 52-14 win in the opening round of the Division 1 football playoffs Friday night in Sparks.

Matt Denn hit Grayson Young for a 32-yard touchdown pass for the opening score. On its second possession, Reed scored on four plays as Jorden Carter scored on a 41-yard run for a 14-0 lead. Carter would score again with 3:38 to play in the first quarter as Reed had a 21-0 lead.

Douglas would attempt to comeback as the Tigers defense intercepted a Denn pass — his first interception of the year. However, it would be the Tigers second interception of a Denn pass that would give Douglas good field position. Douglas had the ball at the Reed 35. The Tigers would cap a 12-play 35-yard drive with a 1-yard scoring run by Tyler Marguth.

The Tiger’s defense gave up a 21-yard field goal as the half ended with the Raiders leading 24-7.

Douglas quarterback Bryce James would throw an interception mid-way through the third quarter that would lead to a 3-yard touchdown pass from Denn to Parker Houston as Reed extended the lead to 31-7.

Reed took a 38-7 lead into the fourth quarter and extended it to 52-7 before Douglas (3-9 on the season) would add a late touchdown.

Reed takes on Hug, a 49-41 winner over Damonte Ranch in a regional semifinal on Friday. Earlier this season, Hug defeated Reed 48-45.
