In excess of $161 million was invested in rural Nevada during Fiscal Year 2014 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development programs, according to USDA.

That was the word Friday from the Carson City-based office of USDA RD State Director Sarah Adler. She said the funds were used to support housing, businesses and community facilities in various rural counties. She also reported since 2009, the federal agency has provided more than $987 million to help strengthen rural Silver State families and communities.

In announcing the year end total and the amount since 2009, Adler said her agency has helped 4,555 Nevada families purchase or repair homes and 67 rural communities to boost their growth. She said more than 100 community projects to improve water and waste systems, build community facilities and purchase emergency response equipment have been funded.
