Joyce Winifred Maddaford passed peacefully on November 18, 2014. She was born in Ely, Nevada on September 22, 1916 to English immigrants William and Florence Maddaford. She was raised in Ruth, Nevada and attended schools in Ruth and Ely. Joyce was the second oldest of four daughters. Joyce first worked for JC Penny in Ely, Nevada and in 1941 moved to Carson City, Nevada where she began her career with the state of Nevada in the Surveyor Generals office which was later reorganized into the State Lands Division of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Joyce retired from state service in 1973. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Carson City and Eastern Star Esther Chapter # 3. Although Joyce never married she enjoyed the benefits of a large family with her three sisters and nine nephews and nieces and numerous great nieces and nephews. Joyce enjoyed travel with friends and family and had visited England, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, Canada and many points in the United States. Joyce was predeceased by her parents William and Florence and by two sisters Ivy Shannon (Carl) and Wilma Dunn (Jim), and one niece Joyce Miles Fogliani. Joyce is survived by her sister Marian Miles three nieces Judy Dunn Grenade, Linda Dunn Stephans and Chris Shannon Loar, as well as five nephews Jim Dunn, Tim Shannon, Mike Shannon, Dave Miles and Dan Miles. Funeral services are under the direction of Walton’s Chapel of the Valley in Carson City and will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 212 N. Division St., Carson City, Nevada. The family wishes to give special thanks to the entire staff at Sierra Place Senior Living where Joyce has resided for the last four years, for their kind and compassionate care.
