“Peanutcracker: The Story in a Nut Shell,” Sierra Nevada Ballet’s shorter version of “The Nutcracker” geared for families with young children, returns at 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 6 in the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center.
The 45-minute narrated holiday show was written and choreographed by Rosine Bena, artistic director of the Sierra Nevada Ballet.
This year’s performances features Malik Berry of Dance Theatre of Harlem and Chloe Felesina of Ballet X and the Sierra Nevada Ballet professional company. More than 50 local children will perform live on stage.
The Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers will present classic Christmas songs before the 2 p.m. event and the Carson City Symphony’s Strings In the Schools group will perform holiday music prior to the 7 p.m. performance. The pre-show entertainment starts 45 minutes before each event.
Ticket prices start at $6 for youth 15 and under. All other tickets are $11 and can be reserved by calling Gina Nelson at 775-220-4452 or emailing gina704@msn.com. Tickets are also on sale on-site before each show.
Schools throughout Northern Nevada can reserve field trips to watch the show on Dec. 5 at the Carson City Community Center and on Dec. 16 at the Pioneer Center for Performing Arts. Sierra Nevada Ballet is Northern Nevada’s only professional ballet company and incorporates the popular with the experimental.
