A motorcyclist died Wednesday night after colliding with a wild horse in Silver Springs.
The Harley-Davidson motorcycle struck the horse in the westbound travel lane at about 8:25 p.m. – after dark. The unidentified biker was thrown from the cycle into the eastbound lanes of the highway. Three passenger vehicles were unable to avoid hitting the victim as he lay in the roadway. All three drivers stopped and tried to assist the biker but he died at the scene.
NHP Trooper Davie Gibson said drugs and alcohol were not involved.
No names have yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
A spokesman for the Nevada Highway Patrol said the horse also was critically injured and had to be destroyed.
