Carson City Parks and Recreation foundation to honor Mayor Marv, others

The Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City Parks and Recreation next week will present special recognition awards for 2014, among them one including the late Marv Teixeira.

The foundation will recognize the former mayor, who died earlier this year, and his two sons, Matt and Allen, for their involvement and promotion of youth sports in the city. The awards for Marv and Allen will be presented posthumously. This is a special one-time award recognizing the trio.

A brief ceremony recognizing the three and other recipients will be held at 4:30 p.m. next Tuesday at the monument near the entrance to the Marv Teixeira Pavilion, former known as the Pony Express Pavilion, at the east end of Mills Park. There is no charge and the public is invited to attend, according to a news release from David Bugli of the foundation.

The other awards include:

Volunteer of the years, Rex Jennings for volunteering time to handle various tasks at Lone Mountain Cemetery over a dozen years; volunteer of the year, Donna N. Inversin, for overseeing the Easy Walk and Easy Bike program and work as a trails advocate; organization of the year, Carson City Redevelopment Citizens Committee, for funding events; business of the year, Sign Pro owned by Steve Reynolds, for sign assistance of various types.

Each recipient’s name will be placed on the monument at Mills Park. Selections are a cooperative effort involving the foundation, the Carson City Historical Society, and the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.

In addition, the names of Eugene T. Paslov and Jacki T. Montgomery will be added to the Wall of Memory. Paslov was Nevada’s state schools superintendent and an advocate of both education and culture in the city. Montgomery was a musician and guitarist with Carson City’s Mile High Jazz Band.
