Prep roundup: Carson’s Amin falls in third place match

RENO — Carson High’s Preeta Amin fell just short of qualifying for next week’s NIAA state tennis tournament.

Amin went 0-2 on Saturday on the final day of the Division I regionals at Caughlin Ranch, losing to top-seeded and eventual champ McKenna LeVitt in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-0, and then dropping a 6-4 and 7-5 decision to second-seeded Meta Zagar of Damonte Ranch.

“Preeta played well against Meta,” CHS coach Diane Baker-Roberts said. “She broke her twice, but couldn’t hold serve.”

Douglas’ Madelyn Landerfelt went 1-1 on Saturday, knocking off Zagar 7-6 and 6-1, and then losing to LeVitt in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-0.

In boys singles, Manogue’s Christian Webber beat Reno’s Ian Rinehart 6-4 and 6-2 for the championship. Manogue’s Joe Berry beat Ryan Raymond of Spanish Springs to grab the third qualifying spot.

Yerington sweeps Battle Mountain

YERINGTON — The Lions improved to 10-0 with a 25-6, 25-15 and 25-11 win on Saturday. The Lions are 29-2 overall.

Kassidy Lommori had 11 kills and five digs, while Ashley Rife had 11 assists, a dig and a kill. Deseree Landa had four digs, while Chloe Dane had six kills, five digs and two aces. The Lions served up 25 aces on the day, including nine by Landa.

Muckers knock off Coleville

VIRGINIA CITY — Nicole Huffman had 10 kills, five digs and 18 assists to lead the Muckers to a 25-17, 25-16 and 25-9 win on Saturday.

Niki D’Agostino had eight blocks, seven kills and eight digs. Gwyn Landaburu had seven digs and three kills, while Bethany Fuller added six digs, five kills and two aces. Jordan Seddon had four kills and two digs.

VC is 11-1 in league and 19-3 overall.

Elko sweeps Dayton

DAYTON — The Indians rolled to a 25-16, 28-26 and 25-17 win over the Dust Devils on Saturday.

Cheyanne Strong had 18 kills and 10 digs to lead Dayton, while Kaylee Turner had three kills, three digs and two blocks. Setter Shalia Powell had 17 assists, four kills, two aces and seven digs. Katie Turner finished with four digs. Dayton visits Sparks Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Dayton boys take 5th

RENO — Brady Heusser finished 17th out of 138 runners to lead Dayton’s boys to a fifth-place finish at the Sparks Invitational on Friday at Rancho San Rafael Park. He was clocked in 19:30.

J.J. Ply was 21st in 19:36, Oakley Workman was 28th in 20:01, Nick Langstaff was 44th in 20:46 and Jared Logan was 47th in 20:54.

“Their times were close to last week, and this was a tougher course,” said Dayton coach Shawn Anderson. “Nick is still not in peak form after taking a month off from a knee injury. Hopefully he peaks in two weeks at divisions.”

Sydney Strickler placed sixth out of a field of 82, covering the 5k course in 22 minutes.

Carson JVs fare well at Bella Vista

FOLSOM, Calif. — Carson High’s younger teams experienced some success at the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational on Saturday.

Rheanna Jackson placed sixth in the JV girls race with a 14:45.37, leading Carson to a seventh-place finish. Kara Bergren finished 36th in 16:32.77. Chloe Hataway was 43rd, Kyndra Holloway 74th and Kathryn Liemandt was 90th.

Carson was 10th in JV boys. Miles Bean was third in 12:03.74 and Logan Mead was 38th in 13:03.72. Reece Canfied was 86th in 13:53.45. Harry Meyer was 122nd in 14:45.36.

Carson fielded incomplete teams at the varsity level because of SAT testing.

Shelby Brown was 44th (21:51.72) and Athna Favero was 64th (22:28.92). Ian VanRensselaer was 55th in 18:16.23 and Wyatt Cartier was 67th in 18:29.44.

Carson rolls over Manogue

The Senators rolled to a 62-15 win over Manogue Thursday night.

Jace Keema completed 13 of 18 passes for 240 yards and four scores, and he also ran for 64 yards. Greg Wallace had eight runs for 132 yards and two scores, and he also caught two passes for 32 yards and a score.

Hector Perez carried five times for 90 yards and a score, while Spencer Rodgers carried nine times for 92 yards and a score, He also returned an interception 32 yards for a score.

Jesse Lopez caught three passes for 111 yards and a TD, while Luke Meyers and Tyler Houling also had touchdown catches.
