Carson City Guide Dog Club to benefit from run/walk

Nevada Day is almost here and so is the 25th running of the Nevada Day Classic Run/Walk. The Carson City Guide Dog Club is especially excited to be helping the Tahoe Mountain Milers with race preparation and course monitoring.

The net proceeds from this year’s race will be donated to Guide Dogs for the Blind. Guide Dogs is the premier charitable organization who matches specially bred, raised, and trained guide dogs with visually impaired people from all over North America. Guide Dogs receives no government funding and blind people receive the dogs and individual training completely without cost.

Did you know that guide dog puppies have been raised in Carson City for more than 30 years? These Carson City puppies have gone on to work in far away places across the nation and all over Canada. Come out and meet the guide dog puppies from Reno and Carson and enjoy a fun race.

Justice system just makes attorneys, judges rich

Recently it was reported on Fox news that a 10-year-old boy beat to death a 90-year-old woman. This was not a 10-year-old boy, this was a 10-year-old monster. The reason I say that is because he didn’t just murder anyone, he murdered an old woman who couldn’t defend herself.

It was reported that he just wanted to hurt her for yelling at him. Is that why he repeatedly punched her in the face and then used her cane to strangle her? We already know this monster is not going to get what he deserves because liberals have destroyed the justice system in this country. The only thing our justice system is good for today is to make attorneys and judges rich. My vote on question Question 1 is easy to decide. Not one dime for justice in this country until I start hearing that the number of appeals that criminals are receiving are being reduced.

Quarantine all of Texas

Since the three sole cases of Ebola originating in the U.S. were in Texas, it is logical to quarantine the entire state of Texas, including Gov. Perry.

If he is as concerned about Ebola risk as he says, he should stay in Texas and focus on using the wealth of his state to equip its hospitals to treat the disease instead of exporting Texas patients to other states and pandering to the current “be afraid” politics.

The quarantine should allow Texans truly concerned about fighting Ebola to travel to Africa to join the real fight to contain this international threat. Those Texans who wish to return to the U.S. after fighting on the Ebola front lines can use their Supreme-Court-approved Texas voter IDs to gain reentry to their state. Absurd? No more so than the current Ebola scare tactics of the media and irresponsible politicians.

I just want to say to the Western Nevada College softball team, good luck in the 2015 season.

You play hard and you practice hard. You are the best. I mean it from the bottom of my heart. I will always support you, and again, good luck.

Thank you for turning in purse

On Oct. 15, my wife left her purse in a cart at the Carson City Walmart parking lot. She drove home before she realized it was gone.

We drove back to the store and a man had found it in the parking lot and turned it in. I wish that he had left his name so we could thank him personally.

It is nice to know that there are people like you that are so honest and thoughtful of others. I know that your family and friends are proud of you and so are we.

Thank you again, and it is a pleasure to see that there are people like you that live here in Carson Valley.

City quick in helping fix sidewalk

About 60 days ago, I went to Ron Wood Family Resource Center. I am stuck in a power wheelchair and I couldn’t go in to get my food share because the entry had about three inches of cement that other seniors could not go up.

I asked the staff why there was no way to access the front door; they said they had called the city to see if it could fix the problem. So I took over and called Mr. Patrick Pittenger. He said he would come out and measure and he would have a crew come out on a Friday. The crew came out and on a Friday started to work on the sidewalk.

It is finished now and it is great, and anyone in a wheelchair can now access Ron Woods Family Resource Center.

So, from all seniors who are wheelchair-bound, thank you, Pat Pittenger and the crew for helping us seniors. Thank you, Pat.
