Although Michael Beebe of B & B Logistics Inc. has been transporting large boats for 15 years, it’s never an easy task.
Beebe and his crew recently transported a 50-foot Monte Carlo yacht from Stockton through Tehachapi Pass enroute to Lake Tahoe.
“From start to finish, we were four days because we had to sit a day because of the high winds on Saturday,” Beebe said. “It’s been a pretty interesting journey for everybody involved.”
Before beginning the trip, Beebe had to lower the yacht from 28 feet tall to just under 18 feet by removing the drives, arch, radar, antennas and table tops to fit under power lines.
“Every wire we came to had me nervous,” he said. “Every tree we came to I had to dodge. I spent as much time on the wrong side of the road as I did the right side of the road.”
Beebe received an escort from three to four California Highway patrol cars for most of the 850-mile trip.
“Anytime you get this high, there’s nothing normal about it,” Beebe said. “Each trip has its own inherent problems.”
The trip to Lake Tahoe was completed over Luther Pass on Sunday afternoon.
“It was a challenge, but we live for challenges,” Beebe said. “This is what we do.”
