Shooting season: The game law went out of force on the first of September. Hunters and shootists from town are in the mountains, chasing the sagebrush rabbit or hugging the shores of Washoe Lake and Carson River, looking for black ducks. The hunters found the location of the birds and stood waiting in the moonlight and at 12 o’clock blazed away with their double barreled shot-guns, which would account for the ducks being for sale at 6 o’clock the next morning (Virginia Chronicle).

Saved: Three-year-old Helen Brown, daughter of Professor Richard Brown of the University of Nevada, fell into the University pond and almost drowned. Her five-year-old brother caught her by the clothing and assisted her to land. The little fellow has won him many compliments (Gazette).

Defeated: U. S. Senator Patrick A. McCarran has won his third Democratic nomination holding the lead of Lt. Gov. Vail Pitman, Ely publisher.
