The Nevada Recycles program has joined with the Las Vegas Sands to support a statewide recycled art contest.
Entrants must be Nevada residents. The projects must be composed of used, recyclable materials.
The entry form and photos of the artwork must be filed with the state by October 31.
A spokesman said any recycled materials from tires and electronics to bottles, cans, appliances and fastening materials can be used in the project.
Rene Braña, Sands Sustainability Manager, said Nevadans including the tourist population throw away about 5.7 pounds of trash per person per day.
“Recycling is the easiest thing we can do to save energy, conserve natural resources and create green jobs,” said Braña.
In addition to a $200 first prize for the best class project, Sands Corp. will provide prizes in four categories: K-5, grades 6-8, 9-12 and Adult. Prize money is $250 for first place, $100 and $50 for second and third place.
