Cheers & Kudos: Tahoe-Douglas flea market a success

A successful flea market hosted by the Tahoe-Douglas Elks Lodge has come and gone. This would not have been possible without the support and volunteer help of members and friends and our wonderful community.

The Record Courier, Nevada Appeal and Sierra Scoop published our publicity. Residents and members donated usable and useful items for the sale. Members and friends worked for over three months sorting, arranging and finally setting up the sale. Of course, clean up afterwards.

Proceeds from this event help the Elks support its many community projects, such as the soccer shoot, hoop shoot, Christmas baskets for senior citizens and student scholarships. Many unsold items were donated to organizations in the area.

Among those receiving donations were the Tahoe women’s shelter Live Violence Free, Big Brothers Big Sisters, St. Gall Catholic Church primary, Do Drop In Center, vets and others.

I personally thank Neil Peddicord and Ron Darrington for picking up donations from citizens throughout the area. I also recognize the time spent by so many wonderful volunteers in helping with all aspects of preparation and actual sale.

You are fantastic and I enjoyed working with all of you.
