140 Years Ago

Suicide J. Burke from Virginia City committed suicide at the St. Charles Hotel. He came to the hotel the night before and wanted the outside room as he said he was liable to be sick. He was not seen again until someone passing his door heard noise as if someone had spasms. He only lived long enough to inform the doctor summoned that he had taken poison. The case will be investigated by Coroner Meder.

New industry for ladies. A new field is the manufacture of plated ware. The machine costs $4 and does perfect work. If any readers will send a small piece of stone or shells or old coins, I will send them directions for making and using a plating machine. Miss Francis Cassey, Oberlin, Ohio.

Tonopah rush. There has been a rush to the Goldfield diggings. The trains on the local road are crowded with people headed south. Four coaches were crowded. Seats were at a premium. Many passengers had to stand up on the way to Mound House where the seating capacity of the small cars on the narrow gauge is limited. Carson will not be behind on the rush and many of the boys are on the ground and many more figuring devises to get there. Goldfield will be the greatest camp that Nevada has ever known ...

The Rambler by Wes Davis. Observers think Hitler will go out of the scene in a spectacular manner ... but, actually, his early life was quite drab, and it is possible he will meet his inglorious fate the same.

Atomic shaft. Four men at Mercury are trapped in a nuclear test shaft. Thirty-five-men crews have been working under desert sun and spotlights at night to untangle the cable that clogs the last 300 feet of the shaft. Leland Roeder, George Cooper, Art Luhnow and Lloyd Shaw are being held captive in a sealed 30-foot square room.
