DAYTON — Dayton High’s volleyball team tuned up for its Northern Division 1A showdown tonight against Fallon with a 25-22, 25-21, 18-25, 17-25 and 15-12 win over Lovelock Wednesday night.

The Dayton-Fallon match tips at 6 p.m.

The match marked the return of Cheyanne Strong, who saw action mostly in the back row. Coach Mike Edmiston didn’t want to rush her back in too soon as it was a nonconference match.

Rachel Hadley led the team with nine kills, six digs and a block. Makenna Olsen chipped in six kills, while Strong tallied five kills, nine digs and four aces.

Kaylee Turner contributed four kills, six aces, two blocks and four digs. Kallie Strong had two kills and two blocks, and Kassie Strong had a kill and three blocks. Katie Turner had six digs and Shalia Powell had five aces and 23 assists.

VC tops McDermitt, 3-1

VIRGINIA CITY — Niki D’Agostino had 13 kills, 12 aces, five digs and three blocks to lead the 4-0 Muckers to a 25-16, 25-8, 23-25 and 25-20 win in a Division IV match Wednesday night.

Nicole Huffman finished with 20 assists, five aces, four digs and two kills, and Shaylynn Call added five digs.

Kim Tiapa had four digs, while Chloe Branson and Gwyn Landaburu added three digs apiece. Landaburu also had three kills.

Carson visits McQueen

Carson High puts its three-match winning streak on the line tonight at 6 when it visits McQueen.

Carson is 4-1 on the year after wins over Reno, Hug, North Valleys and Spanish Springs.

GOLF

Tournament called off

Carson High’s golf team was supposed to play Wednesday at Rosewood Lakes, but the Sierra League tournament was called off because of smoke from the King fire. It isn’t know when or if the event will be made up.

SOCCER

Boys soccer postponed

The McQueen-Carson boys JV and varsity soccer matches were postponed because of smoky conditions in Northwest Reno.

Coach Mike Alvarez said he wasn’t sure when the game would be replayed.

Carson visits Damonte Ranch Saturday.
