Purcell, Sweet shine
in Pack DH loss
RENO – Junior Megan Sweet and freshman first baseman Jennifer Purcell had big days, but it wasn’t enough as San Diego State swept Nevada, 14-3 and 9-7, in Mountain West softball action Wednesday afternoon at Hixson Park.
Sweet finished the series hitting .700 (7-for-10) with two home runs and seven RBI as she continues to feast on Mountain West pitching in the early-going in conference play for the Pack (12-26, 2-6 MW).
In the nightcap, Alyssa Mendez hit a solo homer, and then Purcell made it a 9-7 game with her first-ever college homer, a grand slam.
With two outs, freshman Alyssa Mendez singled up the middle and advanced to second on another single from senior Karley Hopkins. Another single, this time from junior Jasmine Jenkins, loaded the bases for Purcell.
In the opener, SDSU scored 13 of its runs in a two-inning stretch to grab a five-inning win.
