Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell will be among more than 1,800 mayors joining in the third annual Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service on Wednesday.
The Carson City part of the recognition will come at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Way, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. that day, and the mayor will be joined by other speakers.
“National service is a vital resource for our city,” Crowell said in a pre-event news release issued by city government. “AmeriCorps members and Senior Corps volunteers make our cities better places to live.”
Also speaking will be Susan Haas, executive director of the Nevada Rural Counties RSVP program; Marena Works, senior center director; and Hillery Gladden, state program director from the Corporation for National and Community Service.
The public is invited to attend and people are welcome to contribute to the cause by making a donation for the Senior Center gift shop, according to the pre-event news release. Cake will be served during the recognition day event. For more information on the recognition day and related matters, visit www.nationalservice.gov/mayorsforservice.
