In the lockup. There are seven persons in the county jail for drunkenness, two for vagrancy and one for larceny. We are informed the officer in charge will soon have all out on the street at work.

A potato race. The race has come into vogue since the roller-skating frenzy took tis nip on the people. The race is as follows: A basket of potatoes is put near the door of the Opera House hall, and at the words, “All set — light out,” or words which have the same effect, a dozen champion skaters shoot across the floor. “Have you been out to the strike?” is the burning question for those in Lovelock this week. The strike referred to is that on the Honey Bee claim of the Finland ground in Finland Canyon, about nine miles from Lovelock. The assay shows $350.40 in gold and 2.64 in silver.

Births in Nevada still exceed deaths by nearly two-to-one despite the fact the number of children born in the first two months of 1945 was considerably under the all-time high for January and February 1944. This year there were 493 births and 258 deaths.

The Department of Motor Vehicles collected nearly one million dollars in fees for licenses and permits during March, Director Louis P. Spitz announced today.
