Oct. 24, 1927 - Mar. 19, 2015
Thomas Walter “Tom” Martin, age 87, died on March 19, 2015. Tom was born on October 24, 1927 to Walter and Pauline Martin in Riverside, California where he and his only sibling, older brother, Myron, were raised on the family farm. At seventeen, after graduating from high school, Tom spent two years in the Navy. He attended Cal Poly and U.C. Davis under the G.I. Bill, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry. While at Davis he met Cecilie Ann Irwin. The two were married in 1951. They settled in Fallon in 1955 and later purchased a farm in the Union District. As a young man, owning a farm, and being a farmer, was the only career Tom ever wanted. He was still actively involved in managing the farm at the time of his death. Tom was an athlete and outdoorsman. He played high school football, college basketball and boxing, Fallon City League basketball and softball. In the 1940s, he hunted deer with his father and uncle near Cedar City, Utah. Later, he guided his own son in many successful hunts in the Desatoya Range, east of Fallon. For several years “Ace” was voted MVP by his teammates (his kids and neighbors) in the annual Thanksgiving Day Alfalfa Field Football game. Tom is survived by his three children: Tommi Reynolds (Ray), Dawn Toulouse (Kelly), Arne Martin (Leslie) and six grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of The Gardens Funeral Home. No services will be held.
