Warm. The weather is getting warm in Sacramento. The thermometer recorded 93 degrees. McGarnahan is getting the Plaza beautifully leveled off. He has been scraping for a week past with three teams. He will have to haul in considerable dirt around the Capitol before the job is complete.

130 years ago

Local notes. Eight tramps were taken in yesterday and then told to move on. They went to Reno. The attendance at the skating rink increases nightly. Gordon won the potato race on Saturday night. In Reno when a man commits suicide they wait to see how long it takes life to become extinct and then cut him down. If the papers report the matter correctly it took Strong “less than 30 minutes.”

100 years ago

Two of Joe Jaca’s herders were attacked by a coyote near McDermitt last Saturday after the animal had bitten a number of sheep. Fortunately one of the herders was armed with a rifle and he shot the coyote before it could do any further damage. — Humboldt Star.

Gov. E.P. Carville has proclaimed April 27, 1945 as Arbor Day. “I ask that children be impressed with the thought that each tree that they plant adds to the beauty of Nevada.”

Car-Ci-Ada Salon adds to staff. Addition of two new members — Ethel Johnson and Barbara Baker — to the staff of Car-Ci-Ada beauty salon was announced today.
