The Nevada State Museum is celebrating National Coin Week April 19-25 with activities, cosponsored by Reno Coin Club, on Friday and Saturday.

Historic Coin Press No. 1 will operate both days from 10 a.m. to noon, and from 1 to 3:30 p.m., when the press will mint silver .999 fine medallions that will be for sale to the public.

Ken Hopple is volunteering to operate the press and give demonstrations both days. Reno Coin Club members will present programs about unique and rare coins from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. The club will also present its quarter and dollar exchange and will give away foreign coins to young adults. Experts will be available to answer questions about numismatics, the study or collection of currency. Free packets of educational materials will be available at the coin press.

The Coin Week theme is “Building Tomorrows: Inspiration and Innovation at World’s Fairs.” Every year during the third full week of April, the Nevada State Museum and Reno Coin Club celebrate National Coin Week by letting others know about the joys of collecting and studying coins and other forms of money.

All activities will be held at the museum, the former site of the Carson City U.S. Branch Mint. Events are free with museum admission, which is $8 for adults and free for members or children 17 and younger.
