LAS VEGAS — The bride wore a mic and walked down the short aisle to Elvis’ “Love Me Tender” before reaching both her groom and Priscilla Presley, her matron-of-honor.
The early Thursday morning televised wedding of 26-year-old Kaycee Satava and 25-year-old Cameron Baker marked the debut of “Graceland Presents Elvis: The Exhibition - The Show - The Experience” at the Westgate Las Vegas hotel and casino, the same casino where Elvis performed several hundred shows when it was the Las Vegas Hilton and The International.
The exhibit, chapel and show are the first permanent presentations from Graceland and Elvis Presley Enterprises outside of the performer’s Tennessee home, launching 59 years to the day that Elvis first performed in Las Vegas with a grand opening to include an appearance by Presley’s daughter Lisa Marie.
The two won their wedding from the Today Show which broadcast the brief two-minute ceremony shortly after 5:30 a.m.
Rev. Kenneth Baker of Las Vegas kept it quick for television, “none of that ‘dearly beloved’,” he said before the ceremony.
A childhood illness led to Satava’s enduring appreciation for all things Elvis. Satava’s parents Rick and Joyce said they brought her every Elvis movie they could get their hands on to entertain her while she received shots every 21 days and eventually daily.
“She always knew she was going to have an Elvis wedding,” Joyce Satava said, not a cheesy one with an impersonator, she added.
She had no idea Priscilla Presley would be her matron-of-honor until the day before.
“That’s when she got nervous,” Rick Satava said.
Unreal is how both the newlyweds described the entire experience that involved Today Show host and former President George W. Bush’s daughter Jenna Bush carrying their flower girl, 6-month-old daughter Lucy, down the aisle and the King’s ex-wife playfully rattling a bouquet in front of the infant when she started to fuss.
“To have Priscilla next to me for my wedding was a dream,” Satava said.
