Kiwanians from the Kiwanis Club of Carson Valley and Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada with four Douglas High School K-Club members and one student from Aspire Academy raked leaves, picked up trash and spruced up Mormon Station State Historic Park in Genoa on Saturday. The historic park will host the annual Cowboy Poetry from April 30 to May 3.

Park Supervisor Jennifer Dawson had a variety of donuts, coffee and water to keep the volunteers going as they cleaned up the park.

“I want to thank the Kiwanians for cleaning the park faithfully over the past five years before the Cowboy Poetry event,” Dawson said.

“This is the fifth year we have gathered at Mormon Station on K-One Day. On K-One Day, Kiwanians around the world join in a day of service. Our service was cleaning Mormon Station before the annual Cowboy Poetry in Genoa,” said Alan Welch, president of Kiwanis of Sierra Nevada.

While you are enjoying great cowboy poetry, remember to notice the spruced up park and thank a Kiwanian. Call 775-782-8696 or www.genoacowboyfestival.org for tickets or information.
