The Board of Supervisors gets its next update Thursday on progress in designing the Downtown Carson Streetscape Project.
The Regional Transportation Commission and Redevelopment Authority Citizen’s Committee is recommending approval of the 30 percent design of the Streetscape Project
The staff report says design work so far is based on the concept already approved by the board. The core of the plan converts Carson Street into a roadway with one traffic lane in each direction.
The report says, however. “many design details remain to be determined.”
Those items include surface materials, planters, seating areas and other amenities. The report presents renderings of a number of options for those details.
In addition, the board has scheduled a public hearing on the collective bargaining agreements worked out with city employee groups and the increases in pay for city elected officials that were approved by the 2015 Legislature.
Also on the Thursday agenda:
• Approval of a $2 million contract with Sierra Nevada Construction for the Mountain Street utility rehabilitation project. The project will abandon existing water and sewer mains, replacing them with new mains and reconnecting resident utilities along the street. Sierra Nevada was the lowest bidder for the project.
• Acceptance of a $23,825 grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety to purchase 15 new electronic traffic citation devices for the sheriff’s department.
• Approval of a $39,725 contract with Vision Internet to redesign and upgrade the city’s website at www.carson.org and to approve a contract with the state’s Enterprise Information Technology Services division to provide, maintain, repair and upgrade Internet and network services to the city. The cost to the city is $1,129 a month in 2016 and $1,109 a month in 2017.
• Authorize spending from various funds for several events such as the farmers market, the incentive payment to Michael Hohl motors and to support programs including the Ron Wood Foundation and Advocates to End Domestic Violence. All those items require a two-thirds vote of the board.
• Authorize acceptance of $88,192 from the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health for the preparedness planning to respond to infectious diseases such as ebola.
