A gas leak in Dayton caused a small residential evacuation Wednesday after construction crews hit a gas line in the street.

A construction crew was working on the roadway at Occidental Drive and Riverboat Road in Dayton Wednesday when a crew hit a two inch wide gas line in the street on Occidental around noon. Witnesses said they could see the gas spraying up from the pipeline.

Some residents around the gas line were evacuated to a short distance away while crews and the Central County Lyon Fire Department worked to repair the line, and no injuries were reported.

Travelers were rerouted at Empire Road for about two hours while the pipe was being repaired.
