Struck it again. The original Comstock has struck it again. That discoverer of the most famous ledge of silver bearing quartz in the world, seems likely to develop another which will give him something besides celebrity of name. He is reopening the old Comstock and Illinois Tunnel company’s mine in Spanish Ravine.

The latest development in the Sharon case is an affidavit by an old Moorish fortune teller, named Isabella Clarke, who swears she gave Sharon a charm to wear during his last campaign. The sorceress gave the senator a horseshoe covered with red silk, from the center of which she hung some weeds. She was given $5 and the promise of $100 more from Sharon, but only got a pound of cake from the Palace Hotel. We extend our fraternal sympathies to Sen. Sharon.

Have you ever asked yourself why you take your home paper, or why it is necessary to have a home paper at all? Do so, and you will start a train of thoughts that will be illuminating to you. You cannot exist without knowledge of the affairs of your home community. To the great city paper you are but a single pebble on the beach, a drifting sand of the desert. The home paper is your friend, and you know it.

Bill White, foreman of Breakaheart Ranch, thrilled Carson’s main drag Saturday by wandering hither and yon wearing a typical Al Smith brown derby. The reason, Bill explained, was that he had made an important purchase form a leading jewelry store in Reno and as a bonus, offered him a brown derby, which had not been seen in Carson City for many years, if ever.

50 years ago

Reno scored eight runs in the first two innings Sunday and defeated Carson City, 15-10 to win the State Connie Mack baseball championship.
