A 160-acre wildfire burning a mile south of the Buckeye Campground on the Bridgeport Ranger District sent smoke into Carson Valley on Wednesday night.
The Eagle Two fire has forced the evacuation of the campground and the closure of Buckeye Road in Mono County.
It started at 12:17 p.m. Wednesday.
As of 11 a.m. Thursday, resources assigned to the fire include two air attacks, one air tanker, four single engine air tankers, two helicopters, seven engines, six hotshot crews, one CAL FIRE crew strike team and various overhead. The Great Basin Type III Team took command of the fire Thursday morning and additional resources have been ordered.
Firefighters are concerned that gusty winds and low humidity, along with drought conditions, will help the fire spread.
Forest officials encourage the public to be extremely cautious with activities that could potentially cause a wildfire.
Air quality in the Gardnerville Ranchos Thursday morning was down to moderate, according to the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection monitor at Ranchos Aspen Park.
