JAN. 27, 1970: New town planned east of Carson City
Plans for the sale and development of six square miles of untouched land 22 miles east of the state capital have been disclosed by officials of the Stagecoach Land Co. of Carson City.
The proposed new community — to be known as Stagecoach, Nevada — is located on either side of U.S. Highway 50 in Lyon County, less than a half hour’s drive from Carson City. Silver Springs is just six miles further east.
Development plans have been approved by Lyon County commissioners and company officials have launched an aggressive sales campaign of the first unit of 62 one-acre residential parcels. A sales office has been constructed at the development site. Homes to be built must be approved by an architectural control committee set up by the organization.
Jack P. Ledyard, president of the corporation, said his company is building a network of roads with two miles of streets in the first unit alone. He added that water will be available to each parcel of land. One well has been dug and up to four others are planned if needed. Power lines run through the property and preliminary plans call for a substation in the area. Main system of the Southwest Gas company runs through the property and telephone lines are to be extended from the Silver Springs area.
Construction will begin soon on a 6,500-foot landing strip on the south border of the property, just a short distance off U.S. Highway 50. In addition to residential areas, there also will be space for mobile homes and industrial development.
“It is our plan to build an orderly and well planned community,” Ledyard said. “One where there is plenty of wide open spaces and lots of clean air. We believe that there are plenty of people everywhere who will really like the attractions this area offers plus the opportunity to really ‘get away from it all.’”
