Richard Earl “Dick” Baker

Richard Earl “Dick” Baker passed away peacefully at Brighton Convalescent home in Pasadena, CA on August 4, 2015. He was born the beloved only child to Ralph & Isla Baker in Portland, OR on October 8, 1931. He grew up in Portland, OR as well as Yakima, WA. He graduated from Yakima High School and went on to graduate from Washing State University with a degree in Architectural Engineering in 1954. Dick relocated to the Los Angeles area where he met, fell in love with, and married Marlene Turner in 1957. They moved in 1960 to Carson City, NV, where they made their home, raised a family and he worked as a draftsman, architect, and became the Nevada State public Works Board Director until he retired after 30 years in 1990. He was a registered architect in California & Nevada, and even after he retired, maintained professional membership in the AIA and served on the board of Carson City Historic Architecture Review commission. He was a member of the Carson City Masonic Lodge #1. Both Dick & Marlene were members of the First United Methodist church. Dick loved the outdoors, traveling, camping, and hiking. He enjoyed picnic dinners at Sand harbor after work in the summer time. Dick could be seen walking to work & home for lunch for most of his 30+ years. He had a love of books and music, and filled his home with both! He was a loving son, husband, and father. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marlene Baker, as well as his son, Russell Baker of San Antonia, TX and his daughters Claudia Dossey (Dan) of Carson City, NV, and Alison Baker
