Nevada state troopers say they don’t know why a 21-year-old Yerington man lost control of his car before he was killed in a single-vehicle rollover on U.S. Interstate 80 about 20 miles east of Reno near the Derby Dam.
The Nevada Highway Patrol issued a statement Friday identifying the victim as Jessie Colton McCool.
McCool was wearing a seatbelt and the only occupant of the Suzuki Sidekick that crashed at about 8:15 a.m. Thursday, the patrol said.
He apparently allowed the car to drift left into the inside dirt median, then overcorrected causing it to skid back onto the highway before flipping over and coming to rest on its top, NHP said.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
